What Makes Utah Technology Good Enough?

History shows that Utahns are natural entrepreneurs and problem solvers, both qualities being a strong indication that technology will continue to pace the State’s economy in the coming years. A study done by the American Electronics Association revealed that Utah ranks within the top 20 states for per capita employment in the high-tech industry. It also ranks 12th in the electro-medial equipment manufacturing employment, 13th in the Internet services employment, 13th in software publisher employment and 17th in communications equipment manufacturing employment, according to the same study.

That’s not all. Raw numbers reveal a lot of Utah technology potential too. At present, 5.3 percent of the state’s employment is in the tech sector. Utah also exported about $1 billion in high-tech goods in 2005, accounting for approximately 16 percent of the State’s exports. And today, more than 4,300 information technology and life science companies operate in the State, a growth of 10.4 percent from September 2005 to September 2006.
